What are Work Skills?
Work Skills is a term used to describe the abilities needed to undertake work in any setting. These include:
- Resilience
- Emotional Intelligence
- Problem Solving
- Creativity
- Innovation
- Entrepreneurship
- Sustainability
- Personal Management
- Digital Fluency
- Collaboration
- Commercial and Business Awareness
In addition, Work Skills incorporate elements of the following skills categories.
Core Skills
The skills needed to participate in society and life. Core skills comprise learning, reading, writing, oral communication, numeracy and digital literacy.
Employability Skills
The qualities or attributes that employers look for. According to the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) these include: problem solving, initiative and enterprise, teamwork, planning and organisation, self-management and technology skills.
Foundation Skills
According to the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) Foundation Skills are Core Skills + Employability Skills.
Soft Skills
Defined by Indeed.com as personality traits or habits that employers look
for. These typically include Effective communication, Teamwork, Dependability, Adaptability,
Conflict resolution, Flexibility, Leadership, Research, Creativity, Work ethic and Integrity.
