This qualification is delivered via two modes of delivery:

- Live, weekly online workshops; or

- Self-paced learning.

The workshops are 'rolling' meaning that you can join anytime!

If you can't join the online workshops, you can undertake the same workshops in your own time using recorded lectures.

During the workshops, we work through the assessments.

All units have been strategically designed, grouped and structured to provide students with sufficient preparation and practice to successfully complete the qualification.

Each workshop is typically 2-4 hours duration. Students are entitled to access as many workshops as required. Unlimited trainer support is provided via zoom, email and phone.

COURSE DESCRIPTION 

This qualification reflects the roles of individuals delivering training and assessment services in the vocational education and training (VET) sector.

This qualification (or the skill sets derived from units of competency within it) is also suitable preparation for those engaged in the delivery of training and assessment of competence in a workplace context, as a component of a structured VET program.

Often regarded as the most important and fundamental course in the Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) industry, the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the benchmark qualification for any individual who will be delivering training and assessment in VET.

You should consider undertaking this qualification if:

  • You are interested in becoming a qualified trainer and assessor
  • You are working in a Registered Training Organisation
  • You are a teacher involved in Vocational Education & Training pathways
  • You are passionate about adult learning
  • You are required to train and/or assess in nationally recognised units of competency

Skills Developed

You will develop all the skills required to become a qualified trainer and assessor. Please note that you will only be allowed to train and assess in areas you are competent (or hold suitable experience) in. You will develop a good understanding of the Vocational Education and Training industry on both a holistic and operational level.

Duration

The volume of learning of a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is typically six months to two years.

Delivery Particulars

This qualification is delivered via a series of 14 x weekly online workshops. 

Each workshop will cover 1 unit of competency. All units have been strategically designed, grouped and structured to provide students with sufficient preparation and practice to successfully complete the qualification.

Duration

Each workshop is typically 4 hours duration. 

Student Support

Students will have the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and attitude in an online classroom workshop environment before undertaking assessment in a training and assessment context (also online). 

Structured workshops and study/tutorial sessions are available to provide further support to students as required. 

All students will have the support of a trainer who can also mentor students throughout their qualification. The trainer will support the student throughout the learning process and ensure that students have received the appropriate amount of training in each skill and knowledge area and can practice and apply the skills and knowledge requirements of each unit of competency. Each trainer will have the necessary qualifications required of assessors of this qualification. 

Each student will have the opportunity to fully acquire and absorb the required knowledge, and develop skills over time prior to being assessed. To effectively attain the required knowledge and skills of each unit of competency, each student may be required to participate in class workshops, conduct their own research and complete review activities. 

Students attending online workshops must have:

  • A laptop computer with word processing software
  • A functioning email address 
  • Access to the internet 

AITT will provide:

  • A simulated classroom arrangement
  • Presentation aides 
  • Access to the online learning system 
  • All support required to complete this qualification 

Example of Assessment Tasks

Students will be required to undertake all of the following key tasks prior to achievement of the qualification. 

  1. Planning and organising the assessment process (including the development of suitable assessment instruments) on a minimum of three (3) separate occasions plus two (2) Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessments - using different endorsed or accredited units of competency (or clusters of units of competency) for each occasion. This will include contextualisation and / or reasonable adjustment of delivery and assessment- of at least one candidate.
  2. Assessing at least five (5) candidates against at least one endorsed or accredited unit of competency according to the organisation's assessment processes and practices (assessments must be undertaken under the supervision of a qualified assessor and cover an entire unit of competency for each candidate, including: the application of different assessment methods).
  3. Designing, developing and reviewing a minimum of two (2) learning programs
  4. Facilitating group-based learning by preparing and delivering at least three (3) training sessions, including at least two (2) consecutive sessions of at least 40 minutes’ duration, to a learner group of at least eight (8) individuals.
  5. Carrying out a minimum of three (3) training sessions, involving demonstrating and instructing particular work skills for at least two (2) different individuals or small groups
  6. Actively participating in a minimum of three (3) validation sessions that address the critical aspects of validation

Option 2: 6 month payment plan: $500 deposit & 6 monthly payments of $250

Option 3: 12 month payment plan: $500 deposit & 12 monthly payments of $125

Recognition of Prior Learning

AITT has a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy to ensure that an individual’s prior learning, achieved through formal and informal training, work experience or other life experiences, is appropriately recognised. This recognition may assist students to progress faster through a unit of competency or allow the student full credit.

Where a student has expressed in the enrolment form their interest for completing the course through the RPL pathway, the student will be provided with an eligibility assessment prior to enrolment. This may come in the form of a written self-assessment and/or an interview. If deemed eligible, the student will proceed with the RPL process.

Qualification Pathways

Following successful completion of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, the following pathways are available:

TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development

TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training

Entry Requirements into the Course:

Those entering this program must be able to demonstrate vocational competency in their proposed training and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification. As a minimum requirement, learners should be able to communicate, plan and organise resources and to use a range of presentation packages.

Each student will be required to undertake an eligibility assessment process to determine their existing vocational competency. (ref: Appendix) The eligibility assessment process will require students to supply copies of their resume along with verified copies of qualifications showing their vocational competencies as a trainer / assessor in their chosen industry. This will be followed by an interview with an AITT Trainer / Assessor (Ref: Training and Assessment Staff below) to determine the level of prior competency.

All students enrolling with AITT undertake a pre-enrolment and LLN assessment. If it is determined that assistance is required, AITT can offer advice of alternate learning pathways or refer students to other support, which may include an LLN specialist that will assist them to undertake the relevant qualification of study.

It is recommended that students:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent)
  • Have completed a secondary level Year 11 or undertaken equivalent training
  • Have basic computer skills

Students are also required to:

  • Obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI);
  • Provide a valid ID with his/her picture and signature;
  • Undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Evaluation; and
  • Undertake a competency assessment/RPL eligibility assessment before starting the course

Pre-enrolment assessment

To determine your eligibility to undertake the Cert IV TAE40116 please use the following assessment: 

Q1: Do you have an Australian Cert IV or higher Vocational Education qualification AND/OR a Recognised Higher Education Qualification?

YES – Congratulations, you are eligible to undertake the Certificate IV in TAE40116

NO – Go to Q2

Q2: Do you have an Australian Cert III qualification?

YES – Sit the LLN test. If you are deemed proficient, you will be granted entry into the TAE40116.

NO – Go to Q3

Q3: Do you have an Australian Cert II qualification AND at least 3 years’ work experience?

YES – Sit the LLN test. If you are deemed proficient, you will be granted entry into the TAE40116.

NO – Go to Q4

Q4: Do you have an Australia Cert I qualification AND at least 5 years’ work experience?

YES – Sit the LLN test. If you are deemed proficient, you will be granted entry into the TAE40116.

NO – Unfortunately you are not eligible to enrol in our Cert IV TAE40116. We recommend you look at one of our Cert III courses.
