Early Childhood Education & Care

The importance of the early years to children’s lives cannot be overstated. The Australian Government recognises the critical importance of these early years and is working to create a world-class system of integrated, early learning and care that is not only affordable, but ensures people can work flexible hours while knowing that their children are receiving high quality child care and early learning.

There is a need to provide high-quality and affordable integrated early learning and care in a long day care setting that takes into account the specific requirements of the local community, and that will provide an integrated and affordable early childhood education programme for children in the year before they start school.

The national Early Years Workforce Strategy and other initiatives focus on the skills and attributes of high quality early childhood educators aimed at providing a professional Early Childhood Education and Care workforce, and improving the supply and quality of the child care and early learning workforce.
