Course Description

The Diploma of Vocational Education & Training (TAE50116) reflects the roles of experienced practitioners delivering training and assessment services usually within Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) within the vocational education and training (VET) sector. They may have a role in leading other trainers and assessors and in providing mentoring or advice to new trainers or assessors as well as designing approaches to learning and assessment strategies across a significant area within the RTO.

They have a role in providing guidance and advice to trainers and assessors, promoting innovative practices, e.g. e-learning, and in researching and incorporating best practice in training and assessment into training programs and products.

This qualification is suited for:

Delivery Modes

AITT offers two delivery modes.

  1. Blended Delivery Option 1: Face to Face Training Workshops
  2. Blended Delivery Option 2: Face to Face Introduction Training Sessions

Blended Delivery Option 1: Face to Face Training Workshops

You will be required to attend 5 training workshops. Each training workshop is completed within a 2-week block consisting 10-days; 8 hours per day.

TAELLN501 Support the development of adult language literacy and numeracy skills. 

There will be Optional Online Question and Answer (Q&A) sessions – Twice a month. These sessions are 3 hours in duration each.

Blended Delivery Option 2: Introductory Sessions & Supported Self-Paced Learning

You will need to attend face to face introduction training sessions for each unit. These sessions are approximately 4 hours per unit. You will then complete the unit in a support self-paced online format featuring:

  • Optional Online Question and Answer (Q&A) sessions – Twice a month, 3 hours per session
  • Recorded webinar sessions about the concepts covered in each unit, unit requirements and assessment activities
  • Performance activities and exercises included in the learner guide to demonstrate required competencies and knowledge learnt, including simulated environment, case studies, scenarios, and role plays. Facilitator support is provided. Some activities and exercises may be required to be carried out in the workplace.

Cost and Payment

The total cost of this qualification is: $2,800. This course is offered by payment plan:

Option 1: 6 month payment plan: $500 deposit & 6 monthly payments of $383.33

Option 2: 12 month payment plan: $500 deposit & 12 monthly payments of $191.67

Option 3: Subsidised Training for South Australian Residents 

Standard Subsidised Fee: $500

Standard Concession Fee: $150

No incidental expenses and costs will be incurred apart from the initial standard or concession fee. 

Course Duration, Amount of Training & Learner Cohorts

This program is designed to be completed by a typical learner within 52 weeks (including holidays). The actual number of hours required for students to complete the course will vary depending on the individual students’ level of existing relevant knowledge, skills and experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning

AITT has a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy to ensure that an individual’s prior learning, achieved through formal and informal training, work experience or other life experiences, is appropriately recognised. This recognition may assist students to progress faster through a unit of competency or allow the student full credit.

Where a student has expressed in the enrolment form their interest for completing the course through the RPL pathway, the student will be provided with an eligibility assessment prior to enrolment. This may come in the form of a written self-assessment and/or an interview. If deemed eligible, the student will proceed with the RPL process.

Qualification Pathways

After achieving TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Training and Education, candidates may undertake TAE50216 - Diploma of Training Design and Development and higher-level qualifications in the Vocational Education Context, such as:

  • BSB80515 Graduate Certificate in Management (Learning)
  • BSB80615 Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning)
  • TAE80213 Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Leadership; or
  • TAE80113 Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice. 

Entry Requirements into the Course:

Although this qualification does not have entry requirements, it is expected that most learners will hold TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor, TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Learners should also be able to demonstrate vocational competency in their proposed teaching and assessing area. Furthermore, learners must have a strong understanding of the VET sector especially in the key areas of Design, Delivery, Assessment and Validation.

It is recommended that students:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent)
  • Have completed a secondary level Year 11 or undertaken equivalent training
  • Have basic computer skills
  • Students are also required to:
  • Obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI);
  • Provide a valid ID with his/her picture and signature;
  • Undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Evaluation; and
  • Undertake a competency assessment/RPL eligibility assessment before starting the course
  • Due to the large number of industry relevant practical assessment tasks, it is strongly recommended the student is either currently working in a training role within the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector or have extensive access to VET learners and training environments when studying towards this qualification.

Pre-enrolment assessment

All learners are required to complete a pre-enrolment assessment prior to starting the course.

The pre-enrolment assessment process helps AITT determine:

  • If the student meets the minimum LLN requirements and/or if LLN support will be required
  • If the student meets pre-requisite course requirements (see above)
  • If the student is eligible for RPL
  • The most suitable program pathway for the learner (please see Training and Assessment Schedule for more details)
  • The pre-enrolment assessment includes:
  • Initial interview
  • LLN Assessment
  • Competency Assessment (to determine RPL eligibility and/or most suitable course pathway)

Delivery Particulars

All Training is delivered via a combination of face-to-face classroom training sessions and workplace (on the job) learning. This is further supplemented by constant trainer support through AITT’s online student portal. 

Assessment is facilitated through the following methods:

  • Written workbook assessments completed in the class and/or as homework
  • Projects/Case Studies completed in class and/or as homework
  • Skills Workbook assessments completed in the workplace
  • Assessment is delivered via AITT’s Assessment Suite, which includes a combination of:
  • Written knowledge assessments
  • Projects
  • Tasks based on simulated scenarios/ case studies
  • Observation via demonstration or role play 

Training:

Learners are provided with learner guides, assessment workbooks and other relevant reference documents (provided as hard copies or electronic copies accessible through the RTO’s online student portal), comprising all the materials required to complete each unit of competency.

Face-to-face training sessions are conducted by a qualified trainer according to the workshop schedule (see timetables for more details).  The face-to-face sessions include, but are not limited to:

  • Discussions covering relevant theories, concepts, and/or underpinning knowledge
  • Practical demonstrations and practice sessions covering the practical/skills requirements of each subject
  • Instructions/guidance in completing the assessments
  • Group activities, quizzes, exercises, etc.

Assessment:

Assessments are divided into three components:

  1. Knowledge assessments
  2. Skills assessments completed during the workshops, e.g. projects, role plays, case studies, etc.
  3. Skills assessments completed within the vocational workplace for the following units:
  • TAEPDD501 Maintain and enhance professional practice
  • TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills
  • TAEDEL502 Provide advanced facilitation practice
  • TAEASS501 Provide advanced assessment practice

Assessment will depend on the specific pathway learners take to complete the course. Students eligible for RPL are only required to complete the knowledge assessments, provided that they successfully complete the corresponding RPL assessments to demonstrate relevant skills competency.

Resources Required to Complete the Course:

For successful completion of this course, students will need ongoing access to:

  • A computer with an Internet access with a reliable speed of at least 5mbps
  • Google Chrome (recommended browser)
  • MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel or equivalent applications.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader or equivalent application
  • Access to a VET workplace, which includes access to a full range of physical resources usually provided to a facilitator of a training program, in a registered training organisation (RTO). (Note: AITT will provide a simulated environment for students unable to secure a workplace for their assessments – for units applicable under simulated pathway only).
  • Workplace tools and experience
  • Each student will gain access to AITT’s LMS, which includes access to:
  • Tutorial Documents for Navigating the LMS
  • Training Plan
  • Learner Guides for each subject
  • Assessment Workbooks for each subject
  • Templates for Projects and other activities
  • Face to Face Session Schedules
  • Supplementary learning resources, handouts and templates
  • Each student will be provided with supplementary reading material to assist them in completing each unit of competency. 

For all modes of delivery, learners are provided with learner guides, assessment workbooks and other relevant reference documents (provided as hard copies or electronic copies accessible through the RTO’s online student portal), comprising all the materials required to complete each unit of competency.  Mentor support of a dedicated trainer and support is available via face to face, online(zoom), phone or email. Learners are assigned a designated full-time facilitator each to assist and guide the student through the learning journey. Learners are given the email address, office phone number, and mobile phone number of the assigned facilitator. Learners can book and come in for face-to-face introduction to a unit or groups of units or specific assessments or activities. Learners can discuss the unit(s) through the email or phone or can make an appointment and come in for face to face tutorial/ assistance sessions as and when needed. Learners can make appointments to come into discuss completed assignments and assessments requiring additional work. Learners who are relatively slow, get emails and phone calls to understand their situation and to provide reasonable adjustment. From time to time, in some cases, references are given to additional reading material for the learner to assist with the assessments

For learners with no or little relevant vocational experience and/or who do not possess sound theoretical skills and knowledge, the amount of training required would closely match the timeframe indicated above. This training program is designed to align with and meet AQF Volume of Learning Indicators, learner and industry needs.
